Play for keeps.
If I wrote copy for XBOX, I'd build a campaign around "ownership."
Here's why:
Last July, Sony/Playstation announced that, starting in 2028, it'd stop producing physical discs for new games. Gamers were pissed. Many still are. Because without the disc, you can still buy the game, but what you're buying (or renting) is just digital access to it.
XBOX took a different approach.
They still do digital downloads. Cloud gaming. Subscriptions. But they're also finding new ways to make physical ownership more useful. Supported XBOX discs can now unlock digital benefits while the disc itself keeps working. Which means you get all the ease of digital, without losing the physical.
This is a big deal.
So, I brought it to life with:
XBOX | PLAY FOR KEEPS.
Three words, packed with many layers of meaning:
1. We celebrate those who take gaming seriously.
2. We believe what gamers buy is theirs to keep.
3. We believe your library should outlive your console.
4. We speak like a feisty challenger brand.
Best of all:
PLAY FOR KEEPS can stretch across the brand (i.e. games, hardware, backward compatibility, preservation, physical media, digital access, etc.)
And it’s a timeless and timely message, getting attention today (through relevance), and building the brand into its next chapter (through resonance).
And it all points back to one idea:
The future of gaming belongs to the gamer, not the console.
Thanks for attending my TED Talk.
Please remember:
*These are spec ads. XBOX DID NOT ask me to make them. Yes, I used AI to transfer my designs into mockups. No, I did not use AI to write the headlines nor the Atomic Statement.
That was all me.
Hope this helps,
